Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing to inform you that the Met Office has issued a Red Weather Warning for Wednesday 24th June and Thursday 25th June. This is the highest level of alert and indicates a significant risk to health and wellbeing due to extreme heat.
Following a careful risk assessment, we recognise that Pines School is not fully air-conditioned and has very limited areas with suitable cooling. As a result, it would be increasingly difficult to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all pupils, particularly during the hottest parts of the day.
In response, we have taken the decision to close the school for the following classes on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June:
1H, 2G, 2T, 2C, 2D, 2M, 2R, 3F, 3B, 3Z, 3H, and 4H
This action will help reduce the risk to pupils and staff during peak temperatures, which are forecast to exceed 30–35°C.
Given the heightened risks associated with extreme heat, we strongly advise that pupils with complex medical needs, including those with epilepsy, remain at home on these days. Any absence for this reason will be authorised.
We understand that this may cause inconvenience; however, the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff remains our top priority. If there are any changes to the forecast or further guidance issued, we will update you promptly.
Families affected by this decision have been sent a separate Class Dojo message via their class group.
